Politics, Programming and Possibilities
Duane grew up in scenic British Columbia, Canada. Of his home, he says, “I didn’t know how gorgeous Canada was until I moved to Taiwan. I had a Chinese friend of mine show pictures he’d taken of the Rocky Mountains. My jaw dropped. What a breathtakingly beautiful place to be from!” He met his wife, Kelty, in Provo while attending Brigham Young University and has since made Utah his second home.
Working on his computer science degree at BYU since 2002, Duane will graduate in the spring of 2009. He has worked extensively with web-based applications and knows things like Ruby, Javascript, LaTeX, and the answer to life (it’s 42). Duane blogs about his life and work, as well as his political ideologies at his website, InquiryLabs.
English, Chinese, and French (in that order of fluency). And then a bunch of technical languages (see his Resumé for details). No Klingon.
Duane loves to think. He spends time reading and writing about life, the universe, and everything. Mostly about life, though, since he has at least some proficiency at it—and he finds it difficult to fit the universe and everything into his busy schedule. While not at work, you will probably find him hunkered over his MacBook Pro, tinkering with an open source project, or editing a recently recorded home video.
Duane’s resume is available online. He can be reached by sending an email to duane.johnson@gmail.com.
